Fresh starts: New Year’s home resolutions for 2025
As the Christmas decorations come down and the calendar…

‘Twas the night before completion, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The boxes were packed by the movers with care,
In hopes that the buyers soon would be there.
The wardrobes were emptied, the rooms were all neat,
The carpets were vacuumed, the kitchen was sweet.
The agent was ready, the contracts all signed,
While thoughts of the sale filled the seller’s mind.
The buyers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of their new home danced in their heads;
And I in my sweater, with coffee in hand,
Wondered if this deal would go just as planned.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the couch to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew with a dash,
Tore open the blinds, and checked on the stash.
The neighbours were smiling, the street was so bright,
A “Sold” sign was glowing, it felt just right.
The offer was good, and the terms were fair,
The paperwork done, the deal in the air.
The excitement was real, but also bittersweet,
For memories linger, both simple and sweet.
As I waved goodbye to the life I once knew,
I smiled with pride, the house, it was true.
And though I’ll be moving, it’s time to let go,
A new family’s dreams will soon start to grow.
So with a deep breath, and a glance at the door,
I wish the new owners much joy and much more.
